It is therefore essential that systems are subject to periodic inspection and servicing so that unrevealed faults are indentified and preventative measures can be taken to ensure that continued reliability of the systems is maintained.

Periodic inspections and servicing needs to be carried out by a competent company with specialist knowledge of the fire or security system in accordance with current legislation; competency of fire and security companies can be measured and assured by a third-party certification schemes certified by UKAS such as NSI Gold for fire or NSI (NACOSS) Gold for security.
