As of 15th November 2010, all employers, owners, occupiers have a legal obligation under Part 3 of the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment at their premises.

The law applies to you if you are:

• Responsible for business premises
• An employer or self-employed with business premises
• Responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes
• A charity or voluntary organisation
• A contractor with a degree of control over any premises
• Providing accommodation for paying guests

Under the Fire Safety Regulations, the responsible person must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire management plan.  Legislation requires that a Fire Risk Assessment is carried out on virtually all premises and covers nearly every type of building, structure and open space.  At Diamond Electronic Systems Ltd we are acutely aware of the accountability this places on the "Responsible person" and where reasonably practicable we encourage clients to undertake their own fire risk assessments so they are part of the process in understanding fire risks and the best ways in which to control them.
